Made in Solingen stands for absolutely high-quality kitchen knives worldwide.

Burgvogel knives from the town of blades, Solingen, this name is associated with perfect cutlery. The German knife town par excellence.

When we visited the manufactories in Solingen, we also knew the good reputation as a city of knives, but the city itself, only from hearing.

If you drive through the arterial roads into the center of Solingen, you drive past the stone witnesses. Classicist facades from the Gründerzeit on the outskirts. On the hills in the green villas of former industrial magnates.

As you approach the city center, the vacant lots are noticeable. Injuries and healed scars. After the war, during the British occupation, quarters were quickly built up with poor building materials. As in most German industrial cities, the reconstruction is never finished.

Solingen has also dressed up beautiful squares with modern facades and leftover churches and old buildings in between. Interspersed with smaller knife manufacturers and large industrial complexes. The Solingen cutlery industry

The name of the Bahns family stands for the Burgvogel Messer brand

In the early post-war period, Karl Bahns and his sons Karl jr. and Rolf the new beginning. In March 1949 they founded Karl Bahn’s steel goods factory at Burger Landstraße 26.

Right from the start, Burgvogel has distinguished itself through technical innovation. New machines and systems had to be procured in the destroyed factories.

In the same year, Karl Bahns Stahlwarenfabrik started using a semi-automatic knife sharpening machine. They were the first Solingen company to use this new technology.

The company has managed to follow its company philosophy up to the third generation. Craftsmanship where it is important and technical innovation where it can further increase the quality of your kitchen knives.

This principle of combining high-quality craftsmanship with innovative technology has made Burgvogel one of the best knife manufacturers in Germany.

Rolf and Heinz Bahns, a perfect team are conquering the international kitchen knife market.

In 1954, Karl Bahns Junior left the company after the death of his brother Max. In 1965, for health reasons, Karl Bahns Senior hands over the management of the company to Rolf and Heinz Bahns.

Karl Bahns died in 1968, so ownership of the company passed to his wife Amalie Bahns.

Despite the generation change, the spirit of the company, which combines innovation with craftsmanship and thus increases quality and performance, remains the same.

The second generation of Bahns continues to focus on technical improvements and invests in new machines. The product range is expanded, so in the 1970s more butcher, household and kitchen knives are manufactured.

The fourth generation of Burgvogel knives perfect craftsmanship

In 2004, alongside Stefan Bahns, Holger Bahns was also registered as managing director. This means that the 4th Bahn generation is employed in the family business.

Today, the high-quality Burgvogel kitchen knives are sold worldwide. Many years of experience, sophisticated technology, careful manual work and, as a basis, highly hardened steel and attractive handle materials have gone into the sophisticated cutlery.

The Latin motto “Me Fecit Solingen” Solingen created me, is still emblazoned on the massive Burgvogel blades. It guarantees quality, perfection and longevity and thus remains committed to the tradition of the fathers.

It was wonderful to meet the Bahns brothers in their workshops. They showed us their wonderful new products with the same enthusiasm, as well as the latest high-tech systems that grind digitally or engrave branding on the blades with a laser.

This enthusiasm for craftsmanship, coupled with curiosity about innovative manufacturing processes, is the credo of the Bahns brothers and the Burgvogel brand. A guarantee for the highest quality and most demanding kitchen knives from Solingen.
