Laser Engraving: Customize Your Sharp Kitchen Knife

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Using laser engraving, we can engrave any design imaginable in deep black onto your kitchen knife.

At Typemyknife, we often develop a completely custom design for our customers, which is then laser-engraved onto the knife blade.

Most customers who come to us want to have their desired design engraved on a knife blade. The knives are often intended as promotional gifts, merchandise, or corporate gifts.

If they are companies or clubs, they often already have a logo or lettering. We are a laser engraving company that can engrave these individually or in combination along the entire length of the blade, up to 35 cm.

But we can do much more than just logos and lettering. Depending on your wishes, we design whatever suits the customer and their theme.

Sailor Moon Manga Style

Knife engraving for Meta Hiltebrand

Meta Hiltebrand is a manga fan. The early Sailor Moon anime series are an integral part of her outlook on life, her personality, and her image.

Sailor Moon and the talking cat Luna had to be featured on her chef’s knife, which is available for purchase at her cooking school, Cook Couture, in Zurich—after all, she loves cats herself.

We at Typemyknife take these ideas and look for inspiration—images of Sailor Moon, originally Usagi Tsukino.

We look for pictures of cats or quickly snap a photo of our own cat at home.

Thomas studied art and develops his ideas on a digital drawing tablet. Using a pressure-sensitive pen, he turns these ideas into a unique drawing. The drawing is converted into a vector graphic and placed directly on the blade of the custom knife.

Sven Ritzmann – Custom knife design with laser engraving

We met Sven Ritzmann at the trendy Lumen bar in the heart of Stuttgart’s West district.

He was brimming with ideas: an octopus, his favorite animal, Stuttgart of course, and himself—all engraved on the blade, naturally.

For us as designers, ideas like these are both a challenge and a great joy. Stuttgart—that’s the famous TV tower, the market hall with its fresh fish—a great backdrop.

The octopus—a legendary primordial creature, yet also a delicacy. Sven and his self-image: retired, but happy sitting in his kitchen on an empty pickle bucket.

All elements were created by hand on the drawing board. The advantage of digital technology: erasing, removing, and moving elements is much easier than working with a real pencil and eraser.

The image is finished when the customer feels that they and their restaurant, shop, or club are perfectly represented.

Rolf Straubinger Burg Staufeneck
Rolf Straubinger Staufeneck Castle

Rolf Straubinger's Staufeneck Castle and its custom laser engraving

Rolf Straubinger is a Michelin-starred chef with flair and passion.

His creativity is infectious. During a meeting at Staufeneck Castle in the Filstal valley, it immediately became clear what makes this place so special. The ancient walls tower majestically over the valley.

Within these venerable walls, Rolf Straubinger cooks across all boundaries.

His culinary creations, as well as the unique location of Staufeneck Castle, were to be captured on paper. We drove down into the valley, and I made my first sketches right there by the roadside.

The castle, orchard meadows, the Alb landscape. On the other side of the knife, Rolf’s fantastically crafted delicacies—colorful layers, textures ranging from crispy to creamy. The crab tail—a must-try.

The design process – from concept to finished laser engraving

Drawing is a sensory passion that shares many similarities with cooking. You follow an idea and bring together different elements.

Artists—whether at the stove or at the drawing table—seek individual expression and perfection.

The design grows and gradually takes shape. Once the final stage of creation is reached, anything more would be excessive, and there is nothing left to add. Round, perfect, finished.

We are grateful for our customers’ clever ideas. They inspire the design process.

Whatever you want to bring to life on a knife blade—we’ll make it happen.

Questions about laser engraving

What is laser engraving??
In laser engraving, a laser is used to permanently engrave text or a design into the material of the knife. The engraving is durable, scratch-resistant and extremely precise.
What designs are possible?
Text, names, dates, slogans, logos, symbols and simple graphics are all possible. The engraving is usually monochrome, as the material itself is engraved.
Are there any restrictions on engraving?
Ja. Very fine details may be lost during engraving. Furthermore, colours cannot be used, and the contrast depends on the material of the blade or handle.

Design of the laser engraving

How do I design a good engraving for a kitchen knife?
A good engraving should be brief, easy to read and not too cluttered. Clear fonts are easier to read than ornate ones. Logos and images should have high contrast. You should also bear in mind how much space is available on the blade or handle.
Which engravings are particularly popular?
Names that include a date or are personal are popular Dedications, short sayings, initials, the coordinates of a special place or company logos. Choose your design from the gallery or upload your own design to the configurator.

The laser engraving is permanent and will not wear off with normal use and washing. Please follow the care instructions included with your order.
