The English king Edward VI was the inspiration for this handmade knife.
The young Edward was crowned King of England at the age of 10. He succeeded his father as King of the Scandals, Henry VIII.
The handsome but rather weak boy grew up at court with all the courtly etiquette and privileges. In the famous Portrait by Hans Eworth painted in 1546 depicted in the regalia of an English king , fabrics interwoven with gold, an ermine collar a sign of power , draped with jewelry and the most important thing in his right hand, an ear dagger typical of the time.
In the Renaissance, this form of the dagger spread throughout Europe adorned with two large diverging discs is a further development of the testicle dagger that was already in use in the Middle Ages.
The Edward VI dagger serves as a template for the wonderful Renaissance dagger from the TYPEMYKNIFE knife manufacturer. Nils Jacobsen made the blade of the dagger exclusively according to our drawings. It is a hand-forged wild damask with a stepped edge and a slightly raised back.
The damask has 122 layers and a hardness of 60° HRC. The parry consists of two silver discs with a piece of camel bone set in the middle. The edges of the silver discs have tendril-like filing patterns. The handle consists of giraffe bones on the sides, which are held together with silver screws.
The silver screws take up the floral theme again. The giraffe bones hold fine silver plates in which flower tendrils are worked into blue enamel in the Gruben melting process.
The two so-called ears, large free-standing discs are made of silver and these are also entwined with floral patterns. The surface is filled with mother-of-pearl, in the middle of which a lapis lazuli gemstone cabochon is set like in a double ring castle.
