The King a royal Damascus-blade with a gem-encrusted ebony handle.
The art knife The King from the knife manufacturer TYPEMYKNIFE is part of the knife pair. The Queen and The King.
The king is in black ebony while the queen is in light Ivory, like pieces on a chess board.
In their traditional production, the queen and king go back to an interesting event from the Middle Ages. At a time when gemstones were not yet commercially available, the stones were often removed from inherited or old jewelry and presented in a new light.
So it happened that over a long time and in adventurous ways, diamonds from Indian royal crowns, as well as gems from Roman senator rings came back to new splendor in new jewels.
The stones, which enclose the ebony handle in a medieval bandwork technique, were also taken from old pieces of jewelry by TYPEMYKNIFE Messermanufaktur, just like in the past.
The blade, a Lauri carbon knife steel, from the Finnish blade manufacturer Brisa. It is made with a hardness of 59° HRC.
Carbon steel blades are not stainless but have excellent edge retention. The guard is oval and decorated with a braided band made of 925 sterling silver.
An ebony shaft is set into the ferrule. The ebony grip is surrounded by scrollwork, with the cross points each bearing a setting with a stone.
All 16 gemstones are, as mentioned above, valuables made from old jewelry that tell their own story .
The scrollwork is completed with a cap made of highly polished sterling silver.
