1. Knife design for Michael Vogt’s backyard butcher shop, a design love for detail.

As a designer of kitchen knives, you naturally first look around your customers. The trip to the backyard butcher’s shop was of course a particularly nice affair for us. Lake Constance and its charms are always worth a trip, especially in summer.

If this trip also takes place with an extravagant event in the style of an exquisite meat sommelier breakfast, coupled with culinary finesse, the impression is perfect. A board full of the finest homemade dried Bünder meat, as well as the tasting of his exquisite white sausages made from beef are unforgettable.

Of course you first try to empathize with your customer’s wishes. We always try to incorporate the customer’s ideas into our considerations.
Every person is unique, and their ideas about a blade design couldn’t be more different. This is similar to a tattoo. The desire to realize one’s own personal design and aesthetics is also particularly pronounced for blade lovers.

After many templates and ideas for the blade design, a simple but very interesting design was created in the end.
The blades were divided lengthwise into 2 halves. We then dipped the upper half of the cutting edge in a deep black.

In this black, the lettering “Hinterhof” Metzgerei since 2019” is located on the left side of the blade using a 3D frosting laser process.
On the right side of the blade we have his signature Michael Vogt, as well as the limited numbers of his small series, etched into the metal lasered.

2. The technology behind laser marking for Michael Vogt’s backyard butcher shop

Laser beam on stainless steel is old hat? The fact that the technology has been on the market for a few years does not mean that there are no developments in this area.

Lasers have been developed to set identification markings, a QR code or a barcode with numbers or other symbols for the industry to identify your parts.

Of course, plastics could then also be lasered down the line. Very few people will identify your vehicle’s start-stop button as laser technology. And yet it is. It is a two-layer coating and the beloved start symbol is only abrasively removed from the surface.

In a broad sense, we have also processed the blades of the backyard butcher’s shop in the same way.
The fact that we can create a rich, deep black with our technology is not quite common.
We then lasered the lettering into the black in a 3D process. This gives the lettering an extremely three-dimensional look and changes its appearance with the help of the light. A technique that can create amazing effects when viewed and fascinating light reflections
