Thiers Auvergne, the city of knives with history

Thiers Auvergne Puy de Dome

The trip to Thiers in late summer 2020

The city of Thiers was our declared destination on our business trip to Auvergne. The French cutlery capital dating back to the 14th century. The heart of France with its wonderfully curved valleys and mountain ranges. Mysterious, untamed and full of mysteries.

The fact that you got the impression of finding yourself in some alleyways in the Middle Ages and believing you could discover a cutler around every corner was probably not just due to the worst weather you wished for on such a trip.

It was pouring with rain and the first snow of the year in the Central massif. No, the impression was real and tangible at any moment. It was dead season with Corona Attitude. End of September, no streams of tourists that populate the city in the summer months, no, it was the time when you had to look for a bar in Thiers that was still open for a digestif.

Nevertheless, this week we visited fantastic knife manufacturers and made contact with entrepreneurs and knife makers. The result is a selection of top products from French blacksmithing and professional chef’s knives in our TYPEMYKNIFE® shop
